In 2020 and 2021 I did some work on the wing tips. Because it was super annoying, working so many hours on the wing tips I postponed the work. When I started working with resin and fiberglass on the landing gear spats I decided to finish the wing tips now as well. So this blog is about the remaining work in 2020, 2021 and recent weeks.
Many iterations of fiberglass + resin and filler + resin were needed to achieve a perfect fit:
A cardboard template was used to shape both curved trailing edges:
Also here multiple iterations of filler, sanding, more filler and sanding were required:
Also the right wing tip got the 2 aluminium reinforcement strips, glued in place with Proseal:
To give the strips some corrosion protection the inside was painted with cheap black spray paint:
Multiple coats of 2K filler/primer were applied with of course with sanding in between:
Finally they are done:
Nice shape, matching the leading edge of the wing:
And trailing edge is looking good as well:
