Mounting the spats

After some more sanding, filling, sanding and painting the spats could finally be installed.

Sling does not publish any measurements about the required clearance between the tire and the spat. In the Vans RV12 construction manual 1/2″ was mentioned. After removing some material a clearance of 10-12 mm was achieved. I will verify if this is sufficient:

Test fit of the heat shield showed that they almost touch the brake disc, despite of the added axle spacer. Final installation is with safety wire.

A small part of the landing gear is not covered by the heat shield:

Maybe I will go for Technofibra here as well and make a tighter fit and improve the shape of the heat shield.

The nose wheel spat was installed and alignment verified:

Edge protection was added to the front of the spat to protect the nose wheel strut:

The same edge protection was added to the spats of the main wheels. Depending on the final color scheme this edge protection is available in white and black:

The screws used are stainless steel M4x12 and M5x16 (mm) with nylon washers to protect the paint.
