Nose gear spat

Unfortunately the spats had no pilot holes so it was a bit of extra work to determine where the holes should go.

To top of the spats where cut and sanded to the same height. Next was some sanding for better alignment in the joggles. Finally 3 mm holes could be drilled to hold the spats together:

Aluminium washer were machined and epoxied to the fiberglass, to give the rivnuts some additional strength:

With the nose gear locked in a fixed position the holes were marked with help of a laser:

Also the hole for the valve was determined with help of a laser:

There is some bulging around both forward M5 mounting screws:

This was solved by machining 2 doublers epoxied into the spat:

And bending the mounting bracket 2 mm inwards:

With so many iterations of removing and installing the spat the paint of the mounting bracket was scratched, so the bracket was repainted and some anti-chafing tape was installed over the rough inside surface of the spat:

The valve is not very accessible and the rubber cap is not easy to insert (room for improvement):

The spat is on, however some bulging is visible. This is seen on most Slings, however with some additional fiberglass work this can be solved:

The spat is ready for now, however improvement for accessing the value and resolve the bulging is on the todo list.
