Last couple of days I worked on wooden wing spar spacers.
Since my wing spars are thicker than the 23.3 mm written in the construction manual I designed and machined custom wooden spacers from oak wood. These are tapered and have, at specific points, exact the thickness of my spars when clamped together in the jigs to 26 NM and 0.2 mm of additional margin:
From M8 rod I made a “spreader” so I could spread the carry through so that the spacer could slide in:
Finally I installed 2 M8 bolts to clamp the carry through to the spacer:
The bottom skin has sufficient flex to accommodate the slightly wider wing spacer but the holes of the side skin are 1.0 – 1.5 mm off.
