When installing the side skins and reinforcement ribs 5, I didn’t pay attention enough to the orientation of the flanges of rib 5 in relation with the flanges of the main gear mounting box. The result is a different orientation at the front and the rear. Furthermore a 4 mm hole is exactly under the head of the bolt and nut of the main landing gear, that made installing a 4 mm rivet impossible. 4 shims were designed to solve these issues.

The landing gear cover skin has to be installed. According the plans this is done with rivets. However this removes the option to inspect the landing gear after a hard landing or during regular maintenance. There were incidents of cracks near the attachment bolts, those became visible after removing many rivets. Ideal would be a kind of inspection panel. However limited internal height limits the option of just installing rivnuts or nutplates. A smarter design was required and a prototype made.

After some more sanding, filling, sanding and painting the spats could finally be installed.

I don’t like the rubber grommet that covers the access hole to the valve. It’s annoying to install and has a black color which cannot be painted in a matching color. Custom made covers were designed and fabricated.
